Who I am

Marketing translator and translating marketer

I am an English<>German translator, specializing in website localization and marketing communications, a published author, and a former faculty member of the University of Heidelberg in Germany.

I am a vanilla latte aficionada, an education enthusiast, an animal advocate, a language lover, and a fashionista at heart.

I am a wife to an amazing man and an honorary member of a loyal pack of dogs.

I am someone who likes to travel but loves to be home, and I am the kind of person who enjoys having a vegetable garden but can’t keep a cactus alive.

My educational background

In a nutshell: I hold a doctorate and a Diplom degree (German, English, French, and Spanish) in translation studies from the University of Heidelberg in Germany and a bachelor of science in legal studies from the University of Maryland University College. I have also earned language certificates in Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese from the University of Heidelberg and certificates in copyediting, digital media content creation (think marketing, graphic design, writing, photography), and digital marketing (think SEO, social media marketing, analytics, content marketing) from the University of California San Diego Extension.

Teaching translation

While working on my doctorate, I taught English>German translation courses at the Institute of Translation and Interpreting (Institut für Übersetzen und Dolmetschen, IÜD) at the University of Heidelberg.

Research interests

My research interests include web localization, legal translation, transcreation, and digital teaching.

What else?

Marketing and content creation volunteer, dog blog writer, language lover

I am a volunteer at my local animal shelter, where I spend most of my time taking photos of charming canines and creating content to promote the shelter dogs on social media, so they can find their coveted forever homes.

In my free time, I also write about the shelter dogs and my experiences with marketing them – feel free to check out my blog, Shelter Stories.

As expected, I have a passion for languages, speaking English and German at a native(-like) level and having studied Latin, French, Spanish, Italian, and Portuguese. Because of this, I spend a big portion of my free time reading books, listening to audiobooks, and watching movies and TV shows in various languages. Fun fact: My favorite grammatical case in Latin is the ablative.
